Country Cuts - Review

Readers of Country Music People will know Jon Philibert for his incisive reviews of other people's records, but now he's come up with an album of his own. To be more precise, it's an album of songs written by Jon with Sue Bennett, Lorna Flowers and a few other friends - all of them British - and recorded in Hendersonville, Tennessee by Tim Raybon, Mike Sutterfield, Dave Brooks, Lance Miller and Kelly Nolf.

One gets the feeling that most, if not all, the songs were written with specific big-name artistes in mind. With the result that some do sound rather similar to existing hits by singers like Shania Twain, George Strait etc. That's not a criticism, just an observation - as the songs are well-crafted and well-performed.
